Description:
Roman colossal (over life-size) portrait of the emperor Augustus (ruled 27 BCE-A.D. 14). The portrait is dated to the period after Augustus’s death in A.D. 14 (ca. 14-30 A.D./CE). After he died Augustus was elevate to the status of a divinity (or “divus”); his successors promoted the cult of the emperor.
