Origin:
Found in December 1971 an Etruscan tomb in the rock necropolis of Greppe Sant’Angelo near Cerveteri during an illegal excavation.
In 1972, acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art from Swiss art dealer Robert Hecht Jr. and Italian art dealer Giacomo Medici for 1.2 million USD. [Purchase, bequest of Joseph H. Durkee, gift of Darius Ogden Mills and gift of C. Ruxton Love, by exchange] (inv. no. in 1972—2006: 1972.11.10).
In 2006, the criminal origin of the crater was proved (inv. no. in 2006—2008: L.2006.10).
In January 2008, returned to Italy.
After participating in a number of exhibitions (Mantova, Rome, Athens), from the end of 2009 to February 2015 he was in the Etruscan National Museum of Villa Julia in Rome.
Since October 2015, at a permanent storage at the Cerveteri National Archaeological Museum.
