Peacock in Room 15.
The house of Dionysus. Late 2nd century CE.
Paphos, Archaeological Park.
Description:
Between Room 14 and that of the Four Seasons (Room 3) there is a smallish room decorated with an elaborate geometric pattern, in the middle of which there is a panel depicting a peacock. The bird stands frontally on a strip of ground against a white background that highlights the intense blue of its fully spread train. The whole panel is framed by a band of guilloche, but, further in, there is another, narrower frame of a type we have already seen (Room 4, Triumph of Dionysos) which imitates the frame of a panel painting.
