Hellenistic period (3rd—1st centuries BCE).
Cyprus.

Paphos, Tombs of the Kings.

Description:
The second tomb with a peristyle court is the best preserved example of this type. The triglyphs and metopes of its Doric entablature are well-indicated and all its four porticoes are preserved. The west portico, is supported by square pillars instead of the columns seen in other examples. The tomb is accessible through a stepped dromos with 13 steps. The staircase, which originally was partly covered by stone slabs, forms a right angle and opens to the west portico. Opposite the entrance, under the east portico, is the burial chamber with a number of loculi for single burials. Some other shaft tombs were dug under the porticoes. The necessary well was dug under the south portico close to the entrance of the court.
