Total height: 0,53 m; height of the head: 0,29 m.
Inv. No. 73.AA.46.
Los Angeles, John Paul Getty Museum, Getty Villa in Malibu.
Origin:
In 1973 the Getty Museum acquired a marble portrait from Asia Minor. (...) It was brought to Switzerland from the Istanbul bazaar.
Description:
Although the bust is almost ruined, it must originally have been part of a large statue in one of the major towns in western Asia Minor, like Pergamon or Miletus. It is an imperial portrait made locally. The neck is long, and the shape of the face resembles the Tusculum type. With some reason it has been saif by Jale Inan that it is in the tradition of the Tusculum portrait, and it resembles in size the portraits in Naples and the Palazzo Senatorio, Rome.
