Description:
Roman bronze portrait, recently restored, in the Vatican Museums. The head and upper torso have survived. The figure was mostly nude except for a mantle draped over the shoulder. The provenance and identity of the figure are unknown. He was probably placed on a high base, which may explain the elongated neck (which would have been foreshortened at a lower viewing angle).
Dated by the Vatican to ca. 40 B.C.
