North procession, detail of the north 4 slab
13—9 BCE. Rome, Museum of the Altar of Augustan Peace (Ara Pacis Augustae)

North procession, detail of the north 4 slab.

13—9 BCE.

Rome, Museum of the Altar of Augustan Peace (Ara Pacis Augustae)
(Roma, Museo dell’Ara Pacis).

Private collection, Campana.
Description:
The original slab is now preserved in the Louvre; the French Museum acquired it in the second half of the 19th century, together with a large part of the collection of the Campana marquis. A cast made in 1938 replaces it now on the Ara Pacis. Among the relief’s best preserved figures is that of a boy, almost a young man (north 37), who is believed to be the son born from the first marriage of Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa with Marcella Maior (north 43).
