(Roma, Museo dell’Ara Pacis).

Description:
The vegetal frieze of the Ara Pacis has been recovered for nearly half of its original length since the findings of 1859, except for the small part under the Tellus, that had already been rescued in the 16th century. The frieze’s lost parts have been replaced with casts taken from the corresponding originals symmetrically placed on the opposite sides. In the few cases when the decoration was missing on both the long sides, a new relief has been remodelled on the basis of a reproduction sketched on a glass pane.
