Origin:
From Nikomedia (Izmit).
Description:
Roman marble portrait of the emperor Diocletian (reign 284-305 A.D.). The figures wears an oak wreath (corona civica) with a gem(?) at the center. The i.d. is not entirely certain; the figure as also been identified as the emperor Aurelian, or simply one of the tetrarchs.
