Origin:
Found in the catacomb of S. Priscilla, Rome. Formerly in the collection of Cardinal Gaspare Carpegna; purchased by the Vatican in 1741; seized by Napoleon (Treaty of Tolentino), 1797. Transferred to the Louvre in 1801.
Description:
In 1785 Luigi Valadier framed the cameo and used it as a center of a complex composition consists of bronze figures of slaves which includes a wreath, an eagle and fragments of antique cameos.
