9. Caracalla
The portrait depicts the emperor Caracalla as absolute monarch (212-217). As it appears from numismatic engravings made in the the year 212, this portrait type was created following the murder of his brother, Geta. It is the most important and widely disseminated portrait type of Caracalla and is known in more than 40 copies.

Head. White marble with light yellowish brown patina.
H. 0.34 m.
The nose and the ears have broken off and they are missing. There are damaged patches on the front of the neck. The neck has been carved for insertion in a statue.
Acquired 1906 in Rome from the younger Jandolo, through the mediation of Helbig.
