Il giudizio di Paride
da Pompei regio V, 2, 15, triclinio I.IV stile; elà neroniana — elà flavia 45—
Paride, figlio di Priamo re di Troia, è raffigurato in vesti di pastore, al cospetto di Hermes e di Hera, Atena ed Afrodite per decidere a chi assegnare la mela d’oro destinata alla più bella. Paride scelse Afrodite che gli aveva promesso in cambio l’amore della donna più bella della terra. Da qui seguì il rapimento di Piena, moglie di Menelao, causa della guerra di Troia.
The Trojan hero Paris, Priamus’ son, is depicted as a shepherd, in the presence of Hermes, Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. He chose Aphrodite because she had promised him the love of the most beautiful woman of the world, Helen, wife of the king Menelaus; the golden apple became the apple of the discord and the origin of the Trojan war.
