From Rome. This marble with inscription is one of ten small marble plates inscripted in Latin that were acquired by Grand Duchess Elena Pavlovna in Rome in 1859 and given as a gift to the Imperial Public Library. All these inscriptions are funerary. At present 7 of them are installed in the wall of a staircase leading to the main reading room.
