Origin:
From the Borghese collection. Known since 15th century. Since 1807 in the Louvre. The central scene was used by Giuliano da Sangallo as a model for the right relief of the tomb of Francesco Sassetti in the Sassetti Chapel of S. Trinita (Florence). This composition was also used by Andrea del Verocchio in a tomb relief “Death of Francesca Tornabuoni” (now in Bargello, Florence).
